2000 Harley Davidson FLHTP1
Colorado State Patrol Motorcycle
Courtesy of the Colorado State Patrol.
Motorcycles have been used in law enforcement since the early 1900's.
In Colorado, the State Patrol began operations in 1935 with nineteen cars and seventeen motorcycles,
a strong testament to the view of then Governor "Big Ed" Johnson,
who felt the entire State Patrol fleet should be motorcycles.
Today's Motorcycle Operations unit enforces traffic laws in areas where enforcement
in an automobile would be difficult, such as high traffic volumn areas and construction zones.
They also assist with special events, parades & civic functions.
The Harley Davidson Police special has a 45 degree 1450cc V-Twin, air cooled with a 5 speed transmission.
The Colorado State Patrol uses this bike in training.
